A three-alarm fire destroyed a 42-foot-by-440-foot chicken house Friday afternoon in Cumberland. The fire, reported at about 1:42 p.m. by owner Will Sanderson at Windy Hill Farm on Angola Road, killed about 9,000 pullets and 800 roosters inside. When he called 911, Sanderson said the back half of the chicken house was on the ground. Volunteer firefighters from Cumberland, Randolph and Farmville fire departments responded. No injuries were reported.
