Spring revivals, dinner concert planned

Spreading God’s Gifts, Inc. will present a spring dinner concert on Saturday, April 23, at the VFW Hall, 14151 W. James Anderson Hwy., Buckingham, from 5-7 p.m. The menu will include: hamburger steak/gravy, mashed potatoes, peas or butter beans, roll, dessert and beverage for a donation (eat in or take out). The concert from 6-7 p.m. will feature Kathy Whatley, of Virginia Beach, performing music of the late Patsy Cline. The event is co-sponsored by Puckett and Shorter Funeral Homes. Don’t miss the 29th annual Virginia Catfish Festival on Saturday, April 23, from 4-7 p.m. at STEPS, 225 Industrial Road, Farmville. The event is sponsored by Southside Shrine Club. There will be an auction from 5:30-6 p.m. and music by Country Proud and the Dixie Ridge Bluegrass Band. Advance admission is $20; children under 10 are free. Gate admission is $25. The 2016 annual Miles Reunion was held on Saturday at Golden Corral in Richmond. A nice crowd attended and enjoyed fellowship and door prizes.
Buckingham Baptist Church, 24234 N. James Madison Hwy., New Canton, will hold spring revival April 24-27. On April 24 the 11 a.m. worship will be followed by special music by the Oak Hill Quartet and lunch. Sunday through Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Smokey Wilson — Sunday night, Lori Botkin, of McDowell — Monday, Ruby Gray, of Buckingham — Tuesday, and The Oak Hill Quartet of Cumberland —Wednesday. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Jerry Gray of Iva, S.C.
Fitzgerald Baptist Church of Cumberland, partnering with Central Virginia Food Bank, will distribute food to Cumberland residents including Cartersville on Monday starting at noon at Southworth Power & Equipment, 1273 Anderson Hwy., Cumberland (please bring bags). USDA food will also be distributed.
