Spring railroad excursions planned

The Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society has announced its spring railroad excursions.
Catch the “Special” and celebrate springtime in Central Virginia with either one- or three-and-a-half-hour excursions on April 23, April 30 or May 7.
These round-trip-excursions take a historic and nostalgic journey through rolling hills and deep forests of unspoiled beauty in rural Buckingham County.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the bygone days of passenger travel from a seat in either the vintage reclining seat coaches or the open-air sightseeing cars.
Each three-and-a-half-hour round trip also features a spectacular view of the James River from a unique perspective.
Picnic lunches are welcome (sandwiches, snacks and beverages will also be available on the train). All trips depart from the Buckingham Branch Railroad Station, 1043 Main St., Dillwyn.
Fares are $25 for adults and $13 for children 2-12 for the three-and-a-half hour trip and $14 for adults and $8 for children 2-12 for one- and-a-half hour trips (children under 2 not occupying a seat ride free).
On each of these trips a special appearance by the cowboys and outlaws of the Tom Mix Rangers will be featured — the days of the Old West relived.
Seating for all of these trips is limited, so advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.odcnrhs.org/excursions.htm or by mail: Old Dominion Chapter, NRHS, P.O. Box 3131, Chester, Va. 23831. For more information call (804) 231-4324 and leave message.
Net proceeds of these trips help fund the railroad preservation and museum projects of the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society Inc., a voluntary, non-profit Virginia educational organization.
