Ten burglaries were reported at Hampden-Sydney College between March 13 and March 30, according to the college.
One attempted breaking and entering was reported on March 13 at the Sigma Chi fraternity house.
The burglaries have been reported at the Carpenter Y dorm, Cushing Dorm, Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Phi Gam and Kappa Sig, according to the college. All of the reported incidents occurred on campus.
“There seems to be a slight trend in burglaries as the weather gets nicer,” said Scott S. Williams, H-SC’s police chief and director of public safety.
“We are noticing that several (not all) of the locations were not secured and left unlocked. We have increased patrols and are encouraging all in the community to be vigilant, report suspicious activity and to lock their doors.”
He said items taken in the burglaries included clothing and electronic devices, such as TVs and computers.
“We are checking with other law enforcement agencies and pawn shops throughout the commonwealth to see if these items have been pawned,” Williams said.
Anyone with information on the reported incidents should contact H-SC police at (434) 223-6164.
