LU women’s golf T-6 to open Big South tourney

Led by an opening round six-over par 78 from junior Courtney Tolton, the Longwood women’s golf team opened play at the Big South Women’s Golf Championship Monday at DeBordieu Golf Club.

After day one of competition, the Lancers sat tied for sixth on the team leaderboard with an opening round 35-over par 323. Coastal Carolina led the way with a six-over 294  with Campbell two shots back with an eight-over 296. Charleston Southern (302; +14), Winthrop (310; +22) and Gardner-Webb (313; +25) rounding out the top-five.

Coming off a pair of top-10 finishes and her first win at the Mimosa Intercollegiate, Courtney Tolton led the Lancers with a six-over par 78 in the opening round. Tolton sat among the top-20 in a tie for 18th place overall after 18 holes.

Sophomore Crystina Kertsos also sits among the top-25 after one round with a seven-over par 79. She enters Tuesday’s second round four shots outside the top-10.

Meanwhile, Macey Mills opened with a 10-over 82 in her first career round at the Big South Championship. Asha Bala Krishnan rounded out the scores for Longwood with an opening round 12-over 84. She sat tied for 36th on the leaderboard, five shots outside the top-25.
