Fuqua School juniors Emmie Jefferson and Charlotte Townsend, with alternates Ashley Chipman and Chaundra Jones, have been selected to represent the school at the 69th Virginia Girls State session to be held at Longwood University this summer.

Fuqua School’s representatives to Virginia Boys State are Brad Davis and Curtis Rogers, with alternates Robert Burns and Nicholas Davis. The 74th session of Virginia Boys State will be held this summer at Radford University.

The students are first nominated by the Fuqua faculty, then chosen through an interview process conducted by the local American Legion and evaluated based on their leadership abilities, interest in government, service to their school and community and academics. During the week-long program, students are informed of the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. These leadership action programs are designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizen the fact that the U.S. government is just what citizens make it.
