The faculty, staff and students of Prince Edward County Public Schools collected over $285 and a van full of donations, which were sent to Gleaning for the World headquarters in Appomattox to aid in relief efforts following last week’s tornado. The collection was spearheaded by PECHS faculty member Lisa Simon and the SCA at the high school.
“I am very grateful for the support shown by the community in this time of need,” Simon said. “The generosity of the students, faculty and staff has been overwhelming. I never imagined that we would collect enough to send an entire van. The FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), under the direction of Jessica Tibbs, also contributed canned and non-perishable items collected during their canned food drive, which helped tremendously.”
PECHS Athletic Director and Appomattox resident Rodney Kane delivered the supplies to the drop-off location.
“I am so impressed with the outpouring of support by students, teachers, bus drivers, secretaries and others for all of the supplies and monetary donations that will go to Appomattox tornado victims. The people of Prince Edward make me proud to be a part of this community,” Kane said.
