Nurses make our community a healthier place to live

Centra Southside Community Hospital recently recognized several of its nurses for Certified Nurses Day, which was celebrated recently. The day, according to the hospital, is one where nurses celebrate their important achievement of a nursing specialty. “Certification is a milestone of personal excellence along the professional journey,” according to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. We commend these nurses for pursuing their certification and working hard day after day to care for our community. Pictured are, from left, Sharon Canterbury (pediatrics), Gale Derringer (forensic nursing), Polly Wise (perianesthesia/infusion), Mary Smelcer (pediatrics), Susan Smoot (perianesthesia), Brenda Ravagli (pediatrics), Paula Romaine (critical care), Wendy Lafferty (healthcare quality), Shirley Townsend (maternal newborn/lactation), Amber Hucks (home health), Claudia Meinhard (nurse executive), Anne Anderson (perioperative), Linda Barnes (operating room), Melissa Newman (pediatrics) and Jill Hennelly (wound/ostomy care).
