Marya Elasha, a student at Cumberland High School, recently won first place in the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District (PFSWCD) poster contest for her entry with the theme “Local Heroes — Your Hardworking Pollinators.”
First-place winners from each age category were invited to a dinner meeting where they each received a certificate.
Marya was recognized by the Cumberland School Board at the March 14 meeting. Sherry Ragland, filling in for Elise Corbin from the PFSWCD, assisted by Todd Smith, announced that Marya had also won the state competition.
