PRINCE EDWARD — Dr. Wilkie Chaffin and Patricia Bobenrieth have been nominated to serve on the Prince Edward County School Board to represent the Buffalo District.
The county’s board of supervisors held a public hearing Tuesday to gather nominations from the public. No one was nominated for the Leigh District seat during the hearing.
Chaffin was nominated by Dallas Tinsley while Bobenrieth was nominated by Carl Bobenrieth.
About seven people in the audience stood when Tinsley asked them to indicate their support for Chaffin.
Richard Altice asked that the board of supervisors not reseat the incumbents — Russell Dove of the Buffalo District and Dr. Timothy Corbett of the Leigh District — calling the board a failure.
Their terms expire in June.
Tinsley said he spoke on behalf of the Buffalo District, detailing Chaffin’s credentials and experience in public service and education.
Karl said that Patricia Bobenrieth had taught school for over 30 years and was a volunteer in the public library.
Supervisors are set to appoint school board members for the two districts in June.
