The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution in memory of former Capt. and Chief Deputy John M. Dixon II, who died in February. Dixon, 67, served 30 years in law enforcement and retired after serving four years with the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office. Aside from serving the residents of Buckingham County, he served in Vietnam, where he was a ranger in the Special Forces. Upon returning to the United States, Dixon was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. Dixon “was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed,” stated the resolution, which District Six and Board Chairman Joe N. Chambers Jr. presented to Dixon’s family. We commend the board for honoring a man who made a great impact on the people of Buckingham and the United States through his service.
