A 45-year-old Farmville man will spend two years in jail after pleading guilty to numerous drug charges.

William Winston Brown Jr. pleaded guilty in Prince Edward Circuit Court recently to one count of felony possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance, five misdemeanor possessions of a schedule VI substance, one misdemeanor petit larceny of pill bottles and one misdemeanor count of trespassing for being at Hampden-Sydney College’s library after previously being banned, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark.

“He received a total of 12 years incarceration with 10 years suspended — leaving a balance of two years to serve,” Clark said. “The defendant will have to also follow terms and conditions put in place by the circuit court upon his release from incarceration. This sentence is within the range of punishment recommended by the Virginia Sentencing Guidelines.”

Brown was originally charged with abduction, carjacking and robbery in addition to the drug charges, Clark said. “These matters were handled through a nolle prosequi of the charges because the alleged victim is out of the country for at least one year. If, upon the victim’s return, he wishes to proceed at charges, our office will look at re-indicting the defendant on those matters,” she said.

Brown also faced a charge of misdemeanor mob assault and battery for being involved in a fight in jail, according to Clark. “This matter was handled through a nolle prosequi (non prosecution) because the alleged victim has since moved out of Virginia and we have been unsuccessful in obtaining new contact information for him.”
