Mother Nature has an artistic side to her fickle personality.  Her awesome power can destroy in a second what has taken decades or centuries to grow to majestic splendor.  She also has the magic touch to sculpt the remains into works of beauty.

Several years ago a nasty snow/ice storm weighed down the branches of the cedars and pines to the breaking point.  The winter winds huffed and puffed and blew a stately old cedar tree down splitting the trunk.  Mother Nature, not wanting to waste such an elder statesman of the woods, used the sun, rain, snow and wind to peal the bark away revealing a slick, smooth trunk and limbs.

Today this former majesty of the forest reposes with bleached white limbs and knurled truck and splintered roots, a testament to Mother Nature’s power as a sculptor of unique beauty. 

Community Communiqué

The Glenn Memorial Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry will host its senior meal this evening at 6 p.m. Come out and bring a covered dish or two and a friend to enjoy good food, fellowship, and musical inspiration.

The Prospect Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Prospect firehouse.

The Pamplin Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Council Conference Room at the Pamplin Town Office.

The Farm Use String Band will host the free monthly Old Time Dance at the Pamplin Depot on Saturday, March 5.  A dinner will be served at 6 p.m.; cost is $5.  The music begins at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Memorial Baptist Church is showing the movie “War Room” on Saturday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The Prospect Happy Hats enjoyed the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary’s pancake supper on Saturday evening.  Those in attendance were Hilda Allen, Doris Bellafatto, Jean Covington, Betty Meadows, Margaret Stockton and Elsie Wilson. Don Meadows and Richard Stockton accompanied their wives.
