The Longwood University Chamber Music Series will present a concert by Andreas Klein, a prominent German pianist, on Monday in Wygal Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7p.m.). The program is free and open to the public.

Klein has distinguished himself the world over as a dynamic and compelling performer with an expert command of tonal color and interpretation. The New York Times declared him “a fascinating artist” at the keyboard. His program at Longwood will include performances of the famous “Moonlight Sonata” by Ludwig van Beethoven and the virtuosic Sonata No. 7 by Sergei Prokofiev.

Klein’s career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues from London’s Wigmore Hall and Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall, to New York’s Carnegie Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center. He tours extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Mexico, but has also performed in such far places as Syria and Armenia.

Klein has been a frequent guest on WGBH Boston, WFMT in Chicago, and KUHF in Houston.  His recital at the LA County Museum in Los Angeles was broadcast live. He was the subject of a “Musicians Portrait” in Germany and “Intermezzo with Andreas Klein” was televised by PBS.  He has recorded extensively on compact discs.
