BUCKINGHAM — Tenaska Virginia Partners, L.P., owner of TenaskaVirginia Generating Station near Scottsville, is sponsoring a $1,000 academic scholarship for a college-bound Buckingham County High School senior this year.
Buckingham County High School students graduating in spring who will be attending a two- or four-year post-secondary education program at an accredited institution may apply, according to a press release. “Applications can be obtained from the high school guidance counselor and must be submitted no later than Feb. 15.”
The partnership has awarded 16 scholarships totaling $11,000 to students from Buckingham County High School since 2005.
“We are a strong proponent of education,” said Robert Mayfield, plant manager for TenaskaVirginia Generating Station, “and our annual college scholarship program helps promising high school seniors gain the knowledge and skills to be future leaders of the community.”
A committee at Tenaska’s headquarters will select the college-bound senior to receive the scholarship. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate that they are prepared for college study, have good character and rank in the top 50 percent of their class.
