An early morning house fire reported Sunday on Tuggle Road is considered suspicious in nature.
According to Farmville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Andrew Goss, the fire was reported at 1577 Tuggle Road at about 3 a.m. at the intersection of Dry Bridge Road west of Dowdy’s Corner.
The two-story wood home, which was destroyed in the fire, was abandoned, Goss said.
“When we were toned it was fully engulfed,” he said. “We could see the fire when we pulled out off the station … You could see the glow.”
Crews from Farmville, Prospect and Hampden Sydney volunteer fire departments were on scene for hours, he said.
“We know where it started but we don’t know what started it,” Goss said.
The fire department will continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
“It [took] about an hour for us to get it under control, but we stayed on scene for three hours,” he said of the fire.
“I’m going to talk to the State Police special agents on Monday and get them to go out there and take a look,” Goss said.
No one was injured in the fire.
