Ahkiya Allen, student liaison to the Cumberland School Board, and Hannah King, alternate student liaison, attended the 2015 Virginia School Board Association Student Leadership Workshop in Williamsburg.
At the January meeting of the school board, both students gave a presentation highlighting their experiences at the workshop. They noted that they had opportunities to discuss their duties, responsibilities and challenges as student liaisons.
The students outlined several ideas that they wanted to implement as school liaisons, including instituting a Big Brother program that pairs up juniors and seniors with freshmen and sophomores, establishing a club to help struggling students, and starting an initiative whereby high school students can help tutor elementary students.
