PRINCE EDWARD — Sixteen car accidents were reported in Prince Edward County Wednesday night as a dusting of snow fell across the area.

According to Maj. David Wilmoth with the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, the accidents were reported on U.S. Route 460.

“One was a tractor trailer carrying diesel fuel, which spilled,” he said, “causing a hazmat incident at the U.S. Route 15 South exit ramp onto 460. This caused 460 to be shut down for a short period of time.”

Two people were injured in the crashes, he said.

According to spokeswoman Corinne Geller, 18 crashes were reported in the state police’s Appomattox Division as of 9:30 p.m. last night.
