Virginia State Police are considering a Wednesday night incident where a man was struck by a train near Burkeville in Prince Edward County a suicide.
“The incident occurred Jan. 6 … at approximately 9:25 p.m., when a male subject was walking on the train tracks along Route 360 near the Raccoon Crossing,” said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller. “The train had just blown its air horn in advance of the crossing when a male subject standing on the tracks began walking towards the oncoming train. The train conductor tried to brake, but was unable to stop the train in time. The male pedestrian was struck and died at the scene.”
She said the pedestrian’s body was transported to the office of the chief medical examiner in Richmond for positive identification, examination and autopsy.
Trooper J.T. Farris is investigating the incident, she said.
