Gunfire was reported during an attempted robbery on Sunday night at the Pure Station at 607 E. Third St. in Farmville.
The incident was reported at 6:16 p.m., according to Farmville Police Chief Curtis Davis.
“Upon arrival officers were advised by the clerk that a male suspect, described as possibly either white or Hispanic, wearing a partial mask fashioned from a stocking cap, entered the business and displayed a firearm,” Davis said.
After the suspect ordered the store clerk to the ground, the clerk fought back, he said.
“A physical confrontation took place and the clerk produced a firearm he had in his possession. During the scuffle, the clerk discharged his weapon in the direction of the suspect. The suspect fled from the store, dropping his weapon in the process,” Davis said.
According to a police press release, the weapon utilized by the suspect and recovered at the scene was identified as a BB/pellet pistol. “The suspect was last seen getting into a vehicle described as dark colored Chrysler. The suspect is described as possibly a white or Hispanic male, approximately 5-feet and 5-inches tall, 120-130 pounds. The suspect had an obvious mustache,” the release stated.
The suspect has not been located, Davis said.
“There was no positive indication that the suspect was struck by the gunfire. The spent bullet was recovered and no physical evidence of injury to the suspect could be found at the scene. The clerk had no apparent [injuries] and nothing was known taken from the business. The investigation is still active and more information is being developed at this time,” he said.
