A single-vehicle accident at approximately 7:15 a.m. Tuesday on Route 460 East between Tuggle and the Dowdy’s Corner exit to Farmville sent a tractor-trailer over the guardrail. Responders from the Prince Edward Sheriff’s Department, Farmville Fire Department and Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad arrived on scene at about 7:30 a.m. Witnesses reported that the driver, although still trapped inside the cab, was able to speak to them. An eyewitness traveling in the right lane beside the tractor-trailer reported that pooled water on the roadside appeared to cause the truck to jackknife. “The truck just started to tumble into the culvert,” she said. “It’s a good thing the trees were there.”
