A 27-year-old Cumberland man is charged in connection with crashing his car into a church cemetery and striking several headstones at Enon Baptist Church.
Marcus D. Bartee, is charged with damage to unattended property following the Saturday accident, reported on Route 640, less than one mile west of Route 633, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
According to Buckingham Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr., three tombstones were damaged.
Speed is a factor in the crash, Geller said.
“A 1994 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Route 640, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and into a cemetery. The car struck several tombstones before coming to a stop,” Geller said.
Bartee was not injured in the crash, she said, which remains under investigation.
