Central Virginia Health Services (CVHS) has a new pharmacy director, David Christian, who will be at the pharmacy at Central Virginia Community Health Center serving 11 other CVHS sites located across central Virginia.
Christian returns to CVHS after working for Rite Aid Pharmacy for a number of years. Christian worked as both a pharmacy manager and district manager for Rite Aid and brings both management and financial experience to CVHS.
“I am very happy to be back at CVHS,” Christian said. “CVHS has grown a lot since I left, and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges of pharmacy operations in today’s complex health environment. Patient care comes first, and pharmacists play an important role in helping patients understand their medications.”
Christian is also a familiar face in the Buckingham community. He has served on the Buckingham School Board for many years. He and his wife are longtime Buckingham County residents and have raised their two children here. Christian received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics/Business Management from Emory & Henry College and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
Central Virginia Health Services (CVHS) is a non-profit community health center and is Virginia’s first community health center. CVHS will be opening its 16th site in Charlottesville in December. Its first site was Central Virginia Community Health Center, celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.
CVCHC provides medical, dental, x-ray and mammography services in addition to its pharmacy services. The Beulah M. Wiley Center, named in honor of CVHS’ founder Beulah Wiley, offers community residents and patients a fitness facility.
Community health centers are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care because of geography, lack of insurance, poverty or other factors. Along with other health care safety net providers, the Health Center plays in key role in the community’s health. CVHS takes most insurance plans and offers an income-based discount for services for low-income families. Central Virginia Community Health Center continues to welcome and encourage new patients to make an appointment.
