In response to Brad Watson’s question: “Why did Supervisor Wilck make the motion in committee to support the Y then vote against it in the board meeting?” That’s an easy one. I got better figures that did not agree with what I was given in the Y committee meeting.
There has been an ongoing problem with the Y giving us incorrect figures. This has occurred since my early days of involvement with Y finances.
When I asked about scholarship money supplied by the county, I was told “everybody pays something.” This proved to be untrue. When I asked for membership numbers I got numbers that were greatly inflated. We have been told several times that all bills were current when they were not.
I’m researching Y numbers at present to use in a column that I plan to write for The Herald. I think people will find it to be a real eye-opener. For too long the Y has treated the board of supervisors like a rich uncle when, in fact, we are neither rich nor related. I think my article will spell this out.
Jim Wilck,
Prince Edward County Supervisor
