On Sept. 19, members of Farmville’s Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gave a day of service to High Bridge Trail State Park.
The volunteers cleaned up a forgotten cemetery that is purported to be the resting place of “Aunt” Emily, the mother of Robert Russo Moton. The cemetery features numerous rocks marking the head and footstones. There is only one tombstone which bears the name of Henry Jeter, died July 12, 1906. The volunteers also cleared litter along the steep approach to the east end of High Bridge, picked up scrap metal beneath High Bridge and dragged away cut brush from a new trail under construction.
