JRD leaders go head to head Friday

Last Friday proved to be a tough night for all area teams with the exception of the Buckingham Knights, who cruised in for a 35-21 win over the previously undefeated Goochland Bulldogs.
Cumberland fell 42-6 to Randolph-Henry on the Statesmen’s homecoming night, while Fuqua was defeated 34-14 in its homecoming game.
Prince Edward suffered a 61-18 loss to the Amelia Raiders.
All teams will look to improve on Friday, as they face off against familiar rivals. However, carrying out that game plan is easier said than done.
Buckingham (6-1) at Amelia (4-1)
With Buckingham’s most recent James River District win over Bluestone, the Knights steal the spotlight as the number one team in the district standings.
Amelia, which is ranked second, will be pulling out every trick it has to try and stop the Knights who pushed them out of the top position.
But, will Amelia be able to stop quarterback Leon Ragland and all-around standout B.J. Gough?
Cumberland (2-3) Vs. Prince Edward (2-3)
The Cumberland and Prince Edward Friday matchup will be one that is up in the air. Both teams have the same record and seemingly the same amount of talent.
Prince Edward has quick runner Delquan Bigelow, but Cumberland’s Brandon Leabough can surely keep up.
The same goes for Duke defensiveman Dakoda Boyles and PE’s Rafiq Abdus-Sabur.
The Eagles will try to avenge last season’s game, which showed Prince Edward edging Cumberland 21-19. However, first-year coach Ed Knapp and his Cumberland team won’t go down without a fight.
Fuqua (4-1) VS. ISLE OF WIGHT (5-1)
Although the Falcons lost for the first time this season on Friday to the Roanoke Catholic Celtics, they still rank first in the Division IV VISAA standings. Isle of Wight holds tightly two slots under Fuqua as the third-ranked team.
The Falcons swooped in for a close 28-27 win over the Chargers last season, which was the first time Fuqua had defeated Isle of Wight since 2010.
Fuqua hopes to spring back from its Friday loss with an intense rivalry win.
