“He graduated from Marshall District High School in 1950. He attended Spartanburg Junior College and RPI (VCU) briefly. He’s been married to Jo for 58 years and they raised five children together,” Jones’ release stated.

Jones believes that when one is elected to the board of supervisors, the individual is responsible for two major things: carrying out the county’s business and working to bring good and clean businesses into the county to

help keep the tax rate low.

“Having been retired for 20 years, he feels he has the knowledge and time to accomplish both,” his release stated.

“If he is elected, he promises to do everything he can to support the Marshall District primarily, and Buckingham County to the best of his ability,” noted his release.

Jones is a lifetime member of Arvon Presbyterian Church where he has served as an elder for most of his adult life. He’s also a member of the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce.

Jones has been a member of Masonic Stonewall Lodge #200 for over 50 years.

When Jones began working for Solite Corporation, he started as an office boy, his release stated. “After a year there, he served his country in the Korean Conflict for 15 months. He returned to the same company and rose through the ranks to become one of five division managers. During this time he was responsible for making and adhering to a yearly budget for over $26 million,” his release stated.

Jones served as president of Virginia Readymix for one term and served as a member of the board of directors for the National Sand and Gravel Association for many years.

“He retired from Solite after 44 years. Once retired, he served as [a] quality control concrete consultant during the construction of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center near Zion’s Crossroads,” stated his release.

While Jones was previously on the board, “he was instrumental in getting signs put up showing where the industrial park was, having the trash facilities manned and having a tax relief ordinance passed for qualified elderly and disabled citizens,” his release stated.

The election is Nov. 3.
