FARMVILLE — A house fire displaced five people from their East Second Street home on Wednesday evening.
Firefighters from Farmville and Hampden Sydney volunteer fire departments responded to the fire at 711 E. Second Street shortly before 5:30 p.m. Smoke could be seen coming from two areas near the home’s roof. No flames were visible from outside the home when the fire was initially reported.
According to a Farmville Fire Department spokesman, the fire was contained to an area upstairs in the home. There was heavy smoke damage to the upstairs of the home and light smoke damage downstairs, the spokesman said.
