Carolyn Cardwell Wood

Carolyn Cardwell Wood, 71, of Appomattox, died Monday, September 28, 2015, in Suffolk.

Born in Farmville on May 31, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Grace Cobb Wood and Gilbert Nathaniel Wood, Sr. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and retired from Central Virginia Training Center in 2003 after 25 years of service.

Carolyn loved sewing, crocheting, painting, making flower arrangements, teaching Sunday school, her goldfish pond, the beach, spending time with friends, and most of all giving of herself to help others – putting herself last.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy C. and Walter C. “Junior” Burnette of Brookneal; a granddaughter, Renny L. Burnette and fiancé, Philip C. Van Cott of Lynchburg; two brothers, Gilbert N. Wood, Jr. of Farmville and Julian H. Wood of Wade, NC; and one nephew, Robert E. Wood and family.

A graveside funeral service officiated by Pastor Chris Kesler will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 3, at West View Cemetery, Farmville.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Nair and the Sentara Obici Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their compassion and kindness, with a special thank you to Stephanie.
