Numerous Verizon Wireless customers in the Heart of Virginia were without cell service on Saturday morning.

“We are experiencing some issues in that neck of the woods … We’re working with our vendors to resolve the issues and we don’t have a [restoration] time at this point,” Melanie Ortel, a Verizon Wireless spokeswoman said.

She said that parts of Farmville, Charlottesville, South Boston and Martinsville were being affected by the outage.

She couldn’t confirm that customers surrounding the Farmville area were being impacted, though many customers took to social media to express their lack of cell service.

Ortel called the problem a “backhaul” issue, “which means that it’s the connection between the site and our switching center. We’re working on [restorations] at the time.”
