Prospect VFD Harvest Sale is Oct. 3

September 17 — “Catnapping refreshes the soul.”

Start making plans to be with the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department on the first Saturday of October for its 55th annual Harvest Sale. Yard sale and bake sale start at 7 a.m. with the yard sale ending at noon. The auction starts at 1 p.m. and the barbecue dinner starts at 4 p.m. Plan to meet family and friends at Prospect for the wonderful event.

The Prospect Historical Society members are selling tickets for prizes to be given away the first Tuesday of October. Purchase a ticket ($1) from a member of the society or call 574-6140 or 392-6431.

Mrs. Dianna Smith and her mother-in-law Mrs. Pat Smith traveled to Appomattox on Tuesday for hairdresser appointments and to do some shopping.

Mrs. Rita Utzinger and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast at Merk’s on Wednesday.

Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith enjoyed having dinner at La Parota Grill.

Mrs. Peggy S. Kelsey and her twin sister Mrs. Polly S. Duncan met for lunch at Merk’s Place on Tuesday week for lunch.

Mrs. Ruth Garrow is spending the week with her sister Mrs. Betty Noblin.

Mrs. Peggy Kelsey and the Shumaker family, Betty, Mike, Kim and Debra Sue, traveled to Christopher – Newport University to attend the game between Hampden-Sydney and Christopher-Newport. Hampden-Sydney won the game 24 to 9. Peggy and Betty’s grandson Darrel plays for Christopher Newport.

On Sept. 6, Mrs. Flora Bolt had lunch with Mrs. Judy Bolt and Chris. They were celebrating Chris’ birthday a few days early — his birthday was Sept. 10. Others helping Chris celebrate were his sister Jennifer Page Bolt, Steve and Teri Bolt, Haley Murdock, Payden Murdock, Mrs. Jeni Bolt, Joshua and Jacob Bolt, Garland Woodson, Douglas Bolt, Stacy Bolt and Andrew Goss.

Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the United Daughters of the Confederacy meeting on Sept. 9 at the Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library.

Mrs. Frances C. Moore spent part of Sunday with her son, the Rev. Wayne Moore, and his family in Danville celebrating her birthday.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Vickie Oakes, Barbara Hardinge, Shirley Martin, Hilda Friend, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

Neighbors and friends are extending their sincere sympathy to the families of Ruth Layne Ferguson, Lindy Hamlet and Edwin “Ed” O’Neal.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be with them on Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to worship with them with Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Caitilin R. Hoy will be at Davis Memorial Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville, 302 Industrial Park Road, invites you to worship on Sunday  at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday Bible Study at 7 p.m.
