FARMVILLE — Comments from the public could determine the final outcome on potentially moving the Farmville fireworks event from July 4 to Labor Day.
The possible move was a major topic of discussion during the Farmville Town Council’s Sept. 9 meeting.
Recent recommendations were made to move the event from early July to Labor Day weekend. Reasoning behind the recommendation included less conflict with other close locations that participate in Independence Day celebrations.
By moving the fireworks event to Labor Day Weekend, there is a possible chance of an increase in community attendance, student attendance and more accommodating weather, town leaders said.
A recent Herald poll revealed that a majority of community members want to leave the fireworks event in July.
The council continued the matter and made no decision on moving the event, pending public comments.
