Three arrested in vandalism spree in Buckingham

Three people have been charged in connection to a reported vandalism spree that took place on Aug. 15 in Buckingham which resulted in a dozen destroyed mailboxes, damage to a gravemarker and theft of church property.

Morgan Elaine Rush, 22, of Dillwyn, James Lee Absher Jr., 24, of Wingina, and Jamie Leigh Baird Olzer, 20, of Dillwyn, have been arrested and are facing numerous misdemeanor and felony charges in connection to the incidents, according to Investigator Brent Uzdanovics with the Buckingham Sheriff’s Office.

Uzdanovics says Rush and Olzer were arrested Wednesday while Absher was arrested Tuesday.

The incidents took place in the early morning hours on Back Mountain and Ca Ira roads southeast of Sprouse’s Corner.

In addition to destroying and damaging of several mailboxes, the three are also facing charges in connection to damaging a field and trespassing.

All three are also facing a class six felony charge of destruction of gravestones and injuries to a church, according to Uzdanovics.

Rush is facing 30 charges, Absher is facing 30 charges and Olzer is facing 33 charges.

All three suspects were allegedly involved in stealing sign letters from Salem United Methodist Church on Ca Ira Road, while Olzer is also being charged with removing sign letters from Enon Baptist Church.

“We’ve got the vehicle that did it in the impound lot,” said Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr.
