On Womack’s recording comment

Editor:
The purpose of this letter is to examine why Beulah Womack, who is a member of the Prince Edward School Board, objected to the recording of the August Prince Edward County School Board meeting.
Womack is one of eight school board members that are responsible for spending in excess of $24 million a year of taxpayers’ money to educate approximately 2,000 students.
I offer the following possibilities for the reasons that Womack objected to the recording of the meeting and wanted to check with an attorney to see if she could prohibit the recording of the meeting:
1. Womack does not realize that she works for the citizens of Prince Edward.
2. Womack does not want to be held accountable for her votes and other actions while serving the taxpayers and citizens of Prince Edward.
3. Womack has contempt for the citizens and taxpayers of Prince Edward.
4. Womack does realize that she is accountable to Prince Edward citizens but does not feel that citizens are intelligent enough to understand the complexity of her duties while serving on the school board.
Womack could better serve the citizens, taxpayers and students of Prince Edward, as she is paid to do, if she would do the following:
1. Lead an effort to terminate Dr. David Smith as superintendent since he has failed to provide acceptable scholastic achievement scores and sound financial practices for the students and citizens of Prince Edward.
2. Resign her position as a school board member if she does not understand that she is accountable to Prince Edward citizens and understand that citizens have a legal right to record open public meetings per Freedom of Information Act laws.
