Hampden-Sydney College head tennis coach Robert Bareford announced Thursday that Max Henderson (Lynchburg/Liberty Christian) and Harrison Stone (Durham, N.C./Voyager) will be the newest Tigers to the team this fall.
“We are very fortunate to have Max and Harrison join our Tiger tennis program,” said Bareford.
“Both will be able to step in and immediately contribute. They have the right mindset, work ethic, and passion for the game. Not only are they great tennis players, but they are also exceptional young men. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish on and off the court here at H-SC.”
Henderson was a three-year varsity member of the Liberty Christian Academy Bulldogs and went 38-8 in singles competition. He was named the Team MVP and was a three-time First-Team All-Virginia Independent Conference performer. LCA was also a state semifinalist and had a record-breaking number of wins in all three of Henderson’s seasons. Stone was the #1 singles and doubles player for four seasons with the Voyager Academy Vikings and was a state qualifier all four years.
He was named the Conference Player of the Year as a junior and finished his senior season 9-5 in singles and 10-3 in doubles. Open tryouts for the team will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 4 pm. H-SC has their first competition of the fall season on Sept. 13 when the Tigers travel to Lynchburg to participate in the WildCat Invitational at Randolph College.
