BUCKINGHAM — For a second time a trial scheduled for the postmaster of the Buckingham Post Office has been continued.

The new trial date for Martin A. Allen, who’s being charged with two counts of felony embezzlement, is set for September 15, according to the Buckingham Circuit Court Clerk’s Office and the Virginia Courts Case Information database. Allen was scheduled for trial Tuesday.

“The matter was continued … but it may be heard earlier,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney E.M. Wright Jr. “If he were to plead guilty it could be done before then,” the veteran prosecutor said.

Allen was indicted by a grand jury in April on the charges.

According to court documents obtained from the circuit court clerk’s office, the grand jury charged that between Jan. 1 and Dec 31, 2014, “Martin A. Allen, unlawfully and feloniously, did, wrongfully and fraudulently use, dispose of, conceal, or embezzle property, having a value of $200.00 or more, belonging to [the] U.S. Postal Service. …”

A second direct indictment makes the same allegation for the period between the same time period in 2013.
