Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Faye Marion, of Cumberland, and Susan Absher, of Dillwyn, celebrating July 30 and Sam Givens, of Brookneal, celebrating July 31.
Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, along with Jane Cooke and her grandson, Sam Givens, of Brookneal, enjoyed a southern gospel concert featuring The Dixie Melody Boys from North Carolina on July 18 at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church in Prospect. Ed O’Neal formed the group 54 years ago and has had many great men over the years singing in his group.
Sympathy is extended to the Kear family of Cumberland. Janie Louise Davis Newton Kear, 91, went home to be with the Lord on July 11. A funeral service was held July 15.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Maranatha Baptist Church, 2204 Tuggle Road in Farmville, will host Vacation Bible School July 27- 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. nightly for ages 4-12.

The House of Prayer & Revival Center, 4.5 miles east of Bent Creek in Buckingham, will host old-fashioned revival services July 26-31 at 7 p.m. nightly.
Guest speaker for the week will be Pastor Terry Bryan, grandson of pastor Oscar Bryan, a native of Buckingham. There will be special music each night. Pastor Cathy Seay invites all to attend.
Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, on Gravel Hill Road in Dillwyn, will hold homecoming and revival services. Homecoming will be held Sunday with a song service at 10 a.m. and worship at 11:15 a.m. Pastor Rev. Rebecca Cook will preach. Lunch will follow in the fellowship hall.
Revival will be held July 27-31 at 7 p.m. nightly with special music each evening: Monday, Baptist Union Baptist Church Youth Choir from Dillwyn; Tuesday, Sarah Garceau; Wednesday, Smokey Wilson of Concord; Thursday, Browns Chapel United Methodist Youth Choir; Friday, Chris Lewis. At 1 p.m. Smokey Wilson, of Concord, will sing. Revival will be Aug. 3–7 at 7 p.m. with special music nightly.
