Season Ends For PEFYA Minors

BLACKSTONE — It was a sad day at Wrigglesworth Field on Tuesday, when Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) was eliminated from the District 5 Minors All-Star Tournament after losing, 15-2, to the Dinwiddie Nationals.
With the loss, the PEFYA Minors season comes to a close.
“We just didn’t come to play today. Walker (Jenkins) has some type of stomach bug and got sick before the game and during the game in the dugout. It hurt (losing), but we battled,” PEFYA Minors Manager Jamie Morris said.
PEFYA began the game with a Jenkins run on a hit by Evan Nichols in the first inning.
However, that lead would not last long. The Dinwiddie Nationals scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and would allow PEFYA to score just one more run the rest of the game. That run came in during the top of the second inning when Holt Mason hit a single, which sent Caleb Camp home.
The bottom of the second inning saw the Dinwiddie Nationals add six runs. They notched two more runs in the third inning before the game ended in the fourth.
“I hate to lose like that and the season end. These kids don’t deserve that. They are better than that,” Morris said. “They have stuck together and played as a team during the tournament and their attitudes are better than I thought they would be after losing.”
