Local Residents Honored At Virginia Tech Commencement

The following Virginia Tech students were among those honored at the university’s spring commencement ceremony held May 15 in Lane Stadium.

Approximately 4,500 bachelor’s and associate’s degree candidates, along with their families and friends, attended the on-campus ceremony presided by former Virginia Tech President Timothy Sands. The commencement address was given by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt.

Virginia Tech offers 240 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 31,000 students and manages a research portfolio of $513 million. The university fulfills its land-grant mission of transforming knowledge to practice through technological leadership and by fueling economic growth and job creation locally, regionally, and across Virginia.

Local graduates from Farvmille include: Normand Adams, , a bachelor of science degree summa cum laude in agribusiness from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; Normand Adams, a bachelor of science in horticulture degree summa cum laude in environmental horticulture from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Whitney Caldwell, a bachelor of science degree magna cum laude in human development from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Rachel Carter, a bachelor of science in apparel, housing, and resource management degree in fashion merchandising and design from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Timothy Dumminger, a bachelor of science in industrial and systems engineering degree in industrial and systems engineering from the College of Engineering.

Local graduate from Buckingham:

Robert Kluba, of Dillwyn, a bachelor of science degree cum laude in sociology from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
