WYLLIESBURG — Rain and hot weather could not stop the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Majors during the District 5 All-Star Tournament, but Dinwiddie American did on Wednesday night with a 6-3 win that ended PEFYA’s season.
The loss came a night after PEFYA eliminated Charlotte County with a 4-1 win.
Prince Edward-Farmville began the tournament with a win over Colonial Heights and then was defeated on the second day by Prince George, setting up the elimination game with Charlotte County.
PEFYA took its lead against Charlotte in the fourth inning on Tuesday night, when Jake Simon was walked in.
Later in that inning, a Michael Dailey hit sent Colton Copley and Hunter Gibson home. Austyn Jamerson notched a run by stealing home.
The fifth inning saw Charlotte strike back when Noah Walker scored a run.
However, that wouldn’t be enough to catch up with PEFYA, which held on to win the game.
Dinwiddie American would prove to be a tougher opponent for PEFYA on Wednesday, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning and a run in the third.
PEFYA scored its first run in the bottom of the third, when Dailey doubled in Wade Jenkins. Nate Reed and Dailey would then be sent to home on a Copley hit.
Dinwiddie American responded with three additional runs in the fourth inning, which ended the night’s scoring.
Malcolm Holman pitched the last two innings for PEFYA and struck out every batter he faced.
With its second loss this week, PEFYA was eliminated from the tournament and each player received a medallion for his efforts.
