The Buckingham Dixie Majors (ages 17-19) World Series journey was cut short after the team fell 10-0 to Prescott, Ark., on Monday night.
This was the first Buckingham Majors team to advance to the World Series since 1992 and the first Buckingham Majors team to ever win a game in the World Series.
After traveling to Ozark, Ala. for the tournament, Buckingham gained its first win on Saturday, defeating Steel City, Ala., 9-7.
Justin Clabo and Parker Shumaker had two runs each during that game.
Hunter Gilliam, Trent Jacobs, Jesse Hickman, Logan McDonald-Byrd and Devin Allen had a run apiece.
“This has been an experience that we will never forget,” said Buckingham Dixie Majors coach Wes Saxon.
“Without everyone participating, we couldn’t have done it down here. We are very thankful for the support that we have been shown. It was a team effort by the players and the parents.”
They advanced to the the second round of the tournament on Sunday, when they were defeated 17-0 by Ozark, Ala., before facing Prescott, Ark. on Monday night.
“The boys hustled and played hard. I am real proud of the boys and our three coaches that we have,” said Saxon. “If we stay together and come back next year, we could do the same thing.”
