WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01) recently welcomed Andrew Marshall to serve as an intern in his office on Capitol Hill this summer.

Marshall, a resident of Ellicott City, Maryland, began in the office in early May as part of an internship experience aimed at providing a multifaceted look at the legislative process and a first-hand understanding of how Congress works.  He is currently a junior at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Government.  He is the son of Gregory and Lynn Marshall of Ellicott City.

I am extremely glad to have had the opportunity to work with Congressman Whitfield and his dedicated staff to serve the people of the First District of Kentucky these last six weeks, said Marshall.

For a student of political science, there really is no better place to work than Capitol Hill, and I would like to thank the Congressman and his staff for making this such an academically and personally enriching experience.

Whitfield hosts interns throughout the year in his Washington, D.C. office.

Participants have the opportunity to attend legislative hearings and briefings, assist staff with research for the Congressman, and take on a number of administrative projects.

“I commend these young leaders of tomorrow for taking the time and making personal sacrifices in order to come to our nation’s capital and gain a better understanding of our government,” said Whitfield.  “I hope the experience provides them with an educational and cultural understanding that will be of great benefit to their future and am certainly proud to have them as a part of our dedicated team here in Washington.”
