Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Michael Mahoney, of Cumberland, celebrating on Saturday, June 13, Dorothy Shumaker, of Dillwyn, and Rev. Gene Johnson, of Buckingham, celebrating on Sunday, June 14, Peggy Bickford, of New Canton, celebrating on Wednesday, June 17 and Eileen Reynolds, of Buckingham, celebrating on Thursday, June 18.
Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, Susie Taylor and Annie May Miles, both of Dillwyn, and Patricia Woodfin, of New Canton, all enjoyed an afternoon meal at a Dillwyn restaurant on Thursday, June 4.
Our sympathy is extended to the Simpson family of Farmville. Johnnie Marie Simpson, 89, of Farmville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 31. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 2 in Farmville. She will be greatly missed by all.
Teresa’s Place, located on North James Madison Highway in Dillwyn will host their second cruise-in featuring a Ford spotlight cruiser on June 20 from 5-8:30 p.m. All are invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon. Ralph and Fern Dunnavant, of Dillwyn, visited in the home of her mother, Myrle Gibson, of Covington, over the weekend.
Our sympathy is extended to the families of Polly Dowdy family and the Franklin Moss. Polly, of Cumberland, and Franklin, of Dillwyn, passed away and will be greatly missed.

Fitzgerald Baptist Church, partnering with the Central Virginia Food Bank Feed More Program, will be distributing food to Cumberland County residents on Monday, June 15 from 1-2 p.m. at Southworth Power Equipment, located on Anderson Highway in Cumberland. Recipients must have registered in December or must see the director Jerry Seal the day of distribution to qualify. All food recipients are asked to bring bags.
Barry and Linda Miles and Annie May Miles enjoyed an evening meal at a Charlottesville restaurant on Monday, June 8.
The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization, is sponsoring a one-day trip to Wytheville to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre on Saturday, July 11 for The Gospel Jubilee show. The cost includes a round-trip motor coach transportation, lunch and show for $75 per person. To register, or for further information, contact President Barry Miles at 804-492-5806 or 434-315-4181. Deadline for registration will be on or before June 11.
Loaves of Love food pantry, operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cartersville, is designed for Cumberland County residents. Their next food distribution will be on Thursday, June 18 from 2-3 p.m. for all food recipients. Individuals must bring in two forms of ID—a photo ID and proof of residence in Cumberland (such as an electric bill, tax bill or voter ID). Note: All food boxes are severed on a first-come first-served basis.
