After months of anticipation, Reid Super Save Market will open its new Dillwyn location on Wednesday, June 24 at 8 a.m.
It will be the second grocery store serving the Buckingham community.
“Everything kind of depends on [Virginia] ABC licenses and things like that coming through, which they should,” said Kim Miller, the corporation’s president.
The new grocery store will be located at the intersection of Oak Street and Brickyard Drive in Dillwyn at the former Farmer’s Foods location.
Miller said that 27 full and part-time employees have been hired and that the new store has received a great response from the community.
In mid-May, Reid’s purchased the building, including the location of the former Super Dollar, and three acres of land.
Buckingham Chamber of Commerce President Faye W. Shumaker said that she was very happy about the new business, adding that she thought it would be well-received by the community.
“[I’m] very excited,” said Buckingham resident Shaunta R. Garrett regarding the new store. “They have the best meat selection going. And the prices are wonderful.”
Buckingham resident Faye Bobb said that competition is always good for the consumer. “I am excited about the new store coming,” she said.
Maebelle Brown, a Buckingham resident, said, “It is long overdue and it will give the customers another option to shop for their groceries.”
In an earlier interview, Miller told The Herald that personal service distinguishes Reid’s from other grocery stores. “We try to offer what they’re looking for, and we are known for our meat department,” she said.
“I’m excited about it. …” said Buckingham resident Jenny Ragland. “Not only will it put more money into the community, but it will possibly keep more of our county’s dollars in the community if more people decide to shop locally.”
Miller says that the Dillwyn location would offer groceries, meat and produce.
