The Cumberland High School varsity girls track team competed in the VHSL 1A East Region Championships at Sussex Central High School on Thursday, May 28, and brought home the championship title. The Lady Dukes placed first, out of 18 teams, with 67 points. Annesha Harris and CHS varsity boys track athlete Tony Ford were named 1A East Athletes of the Year. Cumberland track coach Kenneth Jasey was also selected as the 1A East Region Coach of the Year. With their performances at the region championships, many athletes from the boys and girls teams advance to the VHSL State Championships. That event will be held at Radford University on June 4-6.
