April 16 – Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Hannah Sprouse, of Buckingham, celebrating on Friday, April 17, Jackie Ponton, of Buckingham, celebrating on Saturday, April 18, Casey Lynch Ownby, of Dillwyn, celebrating on Tuesday, April 21, and Ruth Bleving, of Fairfax, celebrating on Wednesday, April 21.

The annual spring Miles reunion was held on Saturday, April 11, at a Richmond restaurant. A nice crowd enjoyed great food, fun and fellowship.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

The Annual Cumberland County Patriot Day celebration will be on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cumberland Middle School Complex. There will be both indoor and outdoor activities. This year’s theme is “First Call For American Independence.” All are invited to make plans to bring the whole family. There will be something for everyone.

Loaves of Love is a food pantry operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cartersville. This food pantry is designed for Cumberland County residents, which includes Cartersville. The next food distribution is Sunday, April 19, from 2-3 p.m. for those 60 and older and disabled veterans; then from 3-4 p.m. there will be a distribution for those 59 years and younger. Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. is a non-profit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding areas in their time of need. They will host a potluck supper on Tuesday, April 21, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Buckingham Baptist Church, located on U.S. Route 15 north of Dillwyn in Arvonia. The public is cordially invited to attend for a time of fellowship and bring a covered dish for the meal. A donation box will be available for those who feel led to donate. The Buckingham County High School Alumni will host a “Let’s Fight Cancer Together” Car and Bike Show on Saturday, April 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at Teresa’s Place, located on North James Madison Hwy in Dillwyn next to Sprouses Corner. There will be awards given for: cars best in show and first and second place winners for 1960’s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000-2010, 2010-present, and drag car. There will also be awards for best in show first and second place in for the categories of domestic and metric. There will be music by Isaac Randolph and 50/50 raffle tickets.

All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Society in honor of loved ones lost to cancer. The rain date will be Saturday, April 25.

Fitzgerald Baptist Church, partnering with the Central Virginia Food Bank Feed More program, will be distributing food to Cumberland County residents including Cartersville residents on Monday, April 20, from 1-2 p.m. at Southworth Power Equipment, located on Anderson Highway in Cumberland. Recipients must have registered in December or see the director Jerry Seal for the day of distribution to qualify.

Cedar Baptist Church, located on Bell Road in Dillwyn, will be having a “Cedar Clothes Closet” on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be free clothing to those in need, consisting of spring and summer clothes for the entire family. For further information, contact Pat Allen at 434-983-3158.
