CVA Workshop Set For March 21

“Picasso and the Fearless Print,” a Central Virginia Arts workshop, will be held on Saturday, March 21, 10 am to 3 pm at the Fine Arts Studio, Winston Hall, Hampden-Sydney College. The instructor will be Fanella Belle, artist and educator affiliated with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. She is also an instructor of art at the Piedmont Virginia Community College and earned her MFA in fibers at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Picasso constantly tried new ideas and techniques fearlessly throughout his long life. One of his interesting and fun techniques is the reduction print, providing a quick introduction to relief printmaking and color layering. The print is designed first and then slowly carved and printed in a succession that produces a final multi-colored print and a fully exhausted carving block. Since there is no “reverse,” reduction printing rewards both careful planning and spontaneous problem solving!

The workshop fee includes all materials: $10 for students, $15 for CVA members and $25 for non-members. For more information or to sign up contact Marianne Dennison at 434-392-6804 or marianneden@gmail.com.
