Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Daniel Morris, of Dillwyn, and Toney Clifton, of Appomattox celebrating on Friday, December 5; Doris Allen, of Dillwyn celebrating on Saturday, December 6; and Lynn Cloud, of Cumberland, celebrating on Wednesday, December 10.
A birthday party was held in honor of Jackysn Waycaster, age nine, of Dillwyn, on Friday evening, November 28, at the home of his parents, Tommy Jo (T.J.) and Stephanie Waycaster. A number of family members attended and enjoyed ice cream and cake.
Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, Susie Taylor, of Dillwyn, and Patricia Woodfin, of New Canton, and Jane Cooke, of Brookneal, all enjoyed brunch in Lynchburg on November 28.
Browns Chapel United Methodist Church in Dillwyn held their annual Thanksgiving feast and program on Wednesday evening, November 26. A nice crowd attended. The church family also sent out 45 meals to the sick and shut-in.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are sick and shut-in.
On Thanksgiving Day, several family members visited in the home of Ann Carter in Dillwyn.
Note: Triple A of Virginia tells us that 46 million Americans traveled Thanksgiving. Ninety percent by vehicle. This is up by three percent from 2013 and the most since 2007. Gas prices are down by 40 cents per gallon from this time last year.
Buckingham Baptist Church, located on North James Madison Highway in Arvonia, serves supper Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The cost is $4 per person or a family for $15 to cover food cost.
Following this there will be bible study at 6:30 p.m.

Browns Chapel united Methodist Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Road), will host their annual Christmas program on Sunday at 4 p.m. This year’s theme is “All I Want For Christmas Is Jesus.” Following this will be refreshments in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Rebecca Cook and the entire congregation invite all to attend.
Cedar Baptist Church, located on Bell Road in Dillwyn, will host their annual Christmas Program “It All Happened In The Country” on Sunday, December 14 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will follow in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Tommy Armstrong and the congregation cordially invite all to attend.
Union Branch Baptist Church, located on Bridgeport Road in Arvonia, will host their food distrubtion on Saturday, December 13, from 9-11 a.m. Recipients must be a Buckingham County resident.
