CUMBERLAND, November 6 — Homer Wayne White, 70, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC surrounded by his family. He was born May 22, 1944 in Washington, DC to the late Home William and Margaret Estelle White.

Mr. White was a member of Payne Memorial United Methodist Church in Cumberland and recently came to live with his daughter in Cleveland, NC. He attended schools in Washington, DC and high school in Roanoke and Harrisburg.

He joined the US Navy where he proudly served his country in Jacksonville, FL. He attended college in the electrical field and retired after 33 years of service from the Department of Corrections in Powhatan as a maintenance supervisor.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie Walker White of Cumberland; a daughter, Sandra Edwards (Keith) of Cleveland, NC; two sons, Leo V. White (Dawn) of Mt. Ulla, NC and Stephen P. Case (Stacy) of Salisbury, NC; a sister, Laura B. Davis (Jim) of Hughesville, MD; many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all of Cleveland and Salisbury, NC.

He enjoyed being around his family, hunting, fishing, and creating and repairing items in his garage. He spent many hours helping others whenever and wherever they needed him. He liked the Washington Redskin football team.

The family will receive friends at Morning Star Baptist Church, 175 Young Mountain Road Cleveland, NC on Friday evening, November 7 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

A service celebrating his life will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church in Cleveland, NC on Saturday, November 8 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ron Young, Pastor Darrell Worley and Pastor Wesley Morris, officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC.
