The Prince Edward County Health Department will be offering flu vaccine every Tuesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. at the Health Department, located in Farmville at 111 South Street, ground floor. No appointment is necessary.

Please bring Medicare Part B and D cards or $30 if paying by cash or check. Clinics are held routinely at the Health Department where you can also use your insurance card.

Children ages six months to nine years of age who are receiving flu vaccine for the first time should receive two doses of vaccine given at least one month apart.

A new flu shot should be received each year since flu viruses frequently change and new ones arise. The flu vaccine is changed each year to match the flu viruses that are circulating. A person’s immune protection from vaccination declines over time so annual vaccination is needed for optimal protection.

Pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for persons 65 years of age and older and for anyone over two years of age with chronic disease. These shots, which help prevent a common cause of pneumonia, will be available during clinics done at the Health Department.
